One by one, like dominoes, cities and states all across the country are finally waking up to the fact that marijuana is a completely harmless plant with legitimate medicinal benefits and not the dangerous “drug” that the federal government still mindlessly claims it is. And the first place on the eastern seaboard to take this stand legally is Portland, Maine, which recently legalized possession of up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana among adults 21 years of age and older. Overwhelmingly passed in a 67 to 33 percent vote, according to the San Francisco Gate, Question 1 provisions that adults 21 years of age and older will now be allowed to legally possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana, as well as any paraphernalia needed to use it. The ordinance also allows adults 21 years of age and older to engage in activities for the purpose of ascertaining the possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, which presumably implies the seeking out or purchasing of these items.
